The Da Vinci Code claims  that the early church
believed that Jesus was merely a human prophet,
but that the Roman emperor Constantine and the
4th century church transformed him into a deity for
political reasons. Constantine’s reason, it is said,
was to unify the Roman empire around an entity
whose power was unchallengeable.
See The Da Vinci Code, p. 233
Did the Council of Nicea turn
Jesus into a god?
No. The church had been worshipping Jesus as divine
for centuries before Nicea. The NT itself testifies to
Jesus’ deity (John 1:1).
What really happened at
Nicea?
The Council rejected the heretical views of Arius and
affirmed that Jesus the Son was equal to and co-eternal
with God the Father
Did Jesus himself claim to be
divine?
Both Jesus’ own words and his actions provide very
strong evidence for his divine nature.
